From the Artist: The Grand Canyon is deeply significant to the Hopi people. This image is a representation of what the Hopi call Öngtupqa, the Grand Canyon. The Sipapuni, located at the bottom of the canyon, is the Hopi place of emergence where we all came from to this 4th world. The Sipapuni is symbolized by the prayer feathers in the center. Tawa, the sun is a direction of prayer for the strength, well being , and guidance to a good life. Together, these represent the importance of the Grand Canyon to the Hopi people as a sacred place.
