A Gathering of Grand Canyon Historians
Ideas, Arguments, and First-Person Accounts
In February 2019, the 5th Grand Canyon History Symposium occurred as an official centennial event to inaugurate a year-long celebration of Grand Canyon National Park’s existence. In this collection of the Proceeding’s 33 papers, you will find stories of pioneers and families, explorers and scientists, artists and architects, icons and symbolism, spirituality and controversy, presidents and politicians, and lessons to be learned. This monograph truly represents a remarkable gathering of historians, relating ideas, arguments, and first-person accounts. The Symposium was a cooperative venture, planned, organized, and executed by the Grand Canyon Historical Society, the National Park Service, and the Grand Canyon Conservancy.
